UPDATE 2: Bethesda has confirmed that the digital upgrade offer will also be available to UK customers for £12.99.
UPDATE: Bethesda has confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Elder Scrolls Online have been delayed by “about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve”.
As a way of apologising for the delay, the publisher will allow eligible PC and Mac players to purchase a digital version of the PS4 and Xbox One game for $20 when it releases, along with another 30 days of game time.
“We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms,” said Bethesda.
“Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks-which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other-has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.
“We know that the news of an ESO console delay is as disappointing to many of you as it is to us.”
ORIGINAL REPORT: The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The Elder Scrolls Online have been delayed by approximately six months, according to comments allegedly posted by Bethesda on the game’s official FAQ.
“While it has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible, we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six more months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve,” read the alleged post (picked up by Reddit). “For additional information on the delay, please see this blog post (link).”
While the comments have since been deleted, they still appear in Google’s search results and link directly to the game’s FAQ.
A Bethesda representative told VideoGamer.com that it does not comment on rumours when contacted about the story this morning.
A six month delay would mean console players won’t be able to explore Bethesda’s online world until Christmas, with the game possibly even pushed back to 2015.
Elder Scrolls Online first launched on PC last month.
