Bethesda Game Studios finally started full production on The Elder Scrolls in 2023 following the launch of Starfield, and it seems that development is proceeding well. Over 7 years after the game’s initial reveal, the upcoming fantasy RPG is reportedly in a “quite playable” state.
Following news that an internal trailer has been shown at Xbox on the state of the game, new reports claim that the game is currently in a playable state. However, it’s not known just how much longer it will take until the game is released.
The Elder Scrolls 6 hits playable milestone
In the latest episode of The Xbox Two podcast, popular Xbox reporter Jez Corden claimed that the core gameplay of The Elder Scrolls 6 is essentially done with the world of quests being built around the enhanced play of the upcoming sequel.
Corden claimed that the game is already in a “quite playable” form, despite only starting full production in late 2023. However, the reporter revealed very little details regarding the contents of the game and how the new core of the game is different from past entries.
In the same podcast, Corden claimed that Fallout 5 has been fully greenlit, although he also claimed that the game was partly to blame for the cancellation of the next MMO from the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online which was quickly debunked.
Outside of major issues like COVID and the long engine upgrade process needed for Starfield, Bethesda’s game development process is usually remarkably swift. With most of the technological building blocks in place and a large stretch of pre-production, Elder Scrolls 6 is likely the most planned-out entry in the series’ history.
In the past, Todd Howard claimed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will likely arrive between 15 and 17 years after Skyrim’s release. This would mark the earliest release date as sometime next year in 2026. It’s also worth noting that Bethesda typically properly announce titles very close to release so the game will likely release the same year we see it next.
While not confirmed, The Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to release on PC, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles.
