British gaming news website Gamesindustry.biz is reporting that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is about to complete the purchase of the British publisher Eidos. The deal is expected to be announced within the next week.
Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, a source at Eidos said “We’re just really glad the News Corp thing is out in the open now. Keep an eye on it over the next week,” he continued. “It could happen on Thursday, it could happen on Monday – we’re not sure, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel now.”
Eidos had been in talks with a number of rival publishers about a buy-out, but it appears that buy-out by News Corp could be the best scenario for the company; it will enable Eidos to continue on as a publisher. When the firm is sold, it will be sold as a group, and won’t be split like numerous other companies have after recent big buy-outs.
