We’re well under way in the second half of the year now, and EA has decided to let everyone know just how many great games it has in store for us in the coming months. In total the publisher has more than 20 titles on the way spread over 11 different platforms.
“This is an extraordinary time to be a gamer. Whether your passion is for sports or action, whether you play online or on a mobile phone, our development teams have created something special for you,” said Paul Lee, President, EA Studios.
“Investments we’ve made in online, mobile, sports games and new intellectual properties are starting to pay off. In the year ahead, consumers will see ESPN content integrated into our sports games, they’ll see innovative online experiences like Warhammer and Battlefield 2142 and console games like Need For Speed Carbon will pioneer new technologies on next generation and current gen systems,” said Frank Gibeau, Executive Vice President, General Manager, North America Publishing.
From the EA SPORTS stable come all the regulars. First up comes NCAA Football 07, which is heading to the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the PSP in July. August sees the release of Madden NFL 07 on all current platforms, plus Wii and PlayStation 3 when the consoles become available.
In September NASCAR 07 takes to the track on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, with a PSP version to be known simply as NASCAR arriving in the same month. Also released in September is NHL 07 for the PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox 360, Xbox and PC. This newest edition promises more responsive controls and a new level of fluidity only matched by being on the ice.
October sees Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07 step up to the tee with a selection of 21 courses in the current-gen home console versions, and next-gen versions will feature twice the number of courses seen in Tiger’s Xbox 360 debut last year. The Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP and PC versions all arrive in October, with the PS3 version shipping in the autumn at or close to launch.
Also arriving in the autumn we have NBA Live 07, which this year will deliver more ESPN content in-game while you play. The press release states the game is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP, and PC, but seeing as the game was shown at Sony’s pre-E3 conference you can also expect the game on the PS3. Finally from EA SPORTS comes NFL Street 3 for PlayStation 2 and PSP. There’s no mention of FIFA 07, but new iterations of sports games are released like clockwork, so we’d expect this to arrive in time for Christmas.
Outside of the EA SPORTS label we have The Godfather which will finally be released on Xbox 360 and PSP in September, Need For Speed Carbon on every platform under the sun in the autumn, Superman Returns: The Video Game to be released in the autumn to coincide with the DVD release, and finally Battlefield 2142 which is scheduled to ship for the PC in the autumn.
