EA Partners and Funcom have announced an agreement to co-publish modern-day MMO The Secret World.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Funcom, one of the world-leaders in the development of massively multiplayer online games,” said David DeMartini, senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners. “We are very excited to be able to take part in the growing online gaming category with such a highly anticipated title as The Secret World.”
Funcom is also excited by the partnership.
“We are tremendously excited to be working with what is undoubtedly the world-leading games publisher for the past decade, and it is also a great testament to the fantastic work of our development team,” said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “The experience and the knowledge that Electronic Arts brings to the table will be instrumental in allowing us to realize the full potential of The Secret World.”
In The Secret World players will join one of the three secret societies and fight for power across the world.
No release date has been announced.
Funcom’s Age of Conan failed to build the user base its early sales success suggested it might, and the developer will be hoping for more from The Secret World.
EA had moderate success with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, but last year’s APB – an EA Partners title – completely failed. The publisher is also putting a lot of money behind Star Wars: The Old Republic, the BioWare MMO which hopes to take on Blizzard’s World of Warcraft.
