EA Sports MMA, the mixed martial arts title which launched last month without much fanfare, will find an audience this holiday, EA’s John Schappert has said.

During an earnings call last night, the EA COO said: “MMA … launched with a great roster of fighters and innovative online features. It’s off to a slow start, but we are optimistic that this one will find an audience of fight fans over the holidays.”

EA Sports MMA is available now for Xbox 360 and PS3.

EA’s optimism is a stark contrast to the opinion of Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, who last month labelled the game as being “more or less dead on arrival at retail,” signalling the end of the publisher’s efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre.

Schappert didn’t reveal the publisher’s future plans for the title.
