EA faces Spore class action lawsuit

Courthouse News Service reports that a class action lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court against EA, claiming the publisher is defrauding consumers through its Spore game.

It is alleged that EA’s Spore “completely wipes” consumers’ hard drives and replaces it with an undisclosed program that prevents the computer from operating under some circumstances. It’s also said to disrupt hardware operations. The program under attack is the controversial SecuRom, a form of Digital Rights Management.

The CNS reports concludes: “Plaintiffs demand disgorgement of unjust profits and damages for trespass, interference, unfair competition and consumer law violations.”
