Although much of this year’s focus is on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions of FIFA 09, EA is keeping its PS2 FIFA fans happy with the release of FIFA 09 on PS2 this autumn.

The game will feature 500 new animation sequences and all-new collision and shielding systems, new technologies which EA says represents the “biggest innovations to the multiplatform EA SPORTS football engine in four years”.

FIFA 09 on PS2 is promising more responsive, intelligent and realistic physical action. The collision detection system will enable in-game players to behave according to their physical attributes where player speed, direction and strength determine everything from the severity of the collision to the outcome of possession.

Changes to the animation system are said to be beneficial to the skilful gamer, making it easier in one-on-one situations between the attacker and defender. Refinements to the player acceleration attributes will also make it possible for faster players to possess quicker first steps so they can get the edge over a slower defender.

The PS2 game will also feature four new skill moves: scoop turns, rainbow flicks, heel-to-heel knocks and ball rolls.

EA has also revealed new versions of FIFA 09 for PSP and DS, both of which will include the Be A Pro mode, including the Be A Pro camera that follows an individual player.

FIFA 09 is scheduled for release this autumn on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, PS2, PSP and Nintendo DS.
