Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment announced an official PC tournament for Apex Legends yesterday. The Preseason Invitational will take place in Krakow, Poland, from September 13 to September 15.

The EXP Pro-Am Apex Legends Exhibition held on July 11, and the forthcoming X Games Minneapolis Apex Legends EXP Invitational on August 2 to August 3, contribute to the battle royale’s ongoing Preseason. In a press release, design director Chad Grenier said, ‘Competition is in the DNA of Apex Legends and this competitive event will showcase the game at its highest-level. This Apex Legends Preseason Invitational advances our vision towards a robust competitive experience with the community at the center. We continue to explore all the entertaining ways both players and spectators can experience Apex Legends and look forward to bringing this event to life.’

In total, 80 invited teams of three from across the world  will enter a double elimination tournament in the winners bracket. A team will advance in that bracket, be bumped to the losers bracket or be cut from the competition based on their performance in each match, until 20 teams remain. These 60 players are the best of the best of the best, sir, and their prize money stretches from $4,800 for last place to $105,000 for first place. There is also the Apex Predator prize, awarding $8,000 to the player (or players) that achieve the most eliminations during the Finals.

To enter, players must apply for an invitation to the tournament, by emailing EA  with their Origin ID and associated email address; just like the knights of yore.

Battle royale competitor Fortnite culminated its World Cup Championship over this past weekend, with Essex teenager Jaden Ashman placing second in its duos final and winning £921,000.
