CCP’s upcoming MMO DUST 514 will be the biggest multiplayer FPS game currently available, in terms of “scale, depth and volume of content”, according to executive producer Brandon Laurino.

He explains on the official PlayStation blog this is because combat will take place across entire solar systems: “You’re looking at a conflict taking place across thousands of planets, so we’re not just talking a dozen maps – we’re talking an entire universe of planets and areas of engagement within them.”

CCP has also taken influence from the likes of social and mobile gaming in order to set up a system that allows for new content to be added to the game quickly.

“Taking our experience with EVE Online and also, some inspiration found in the best microtransaction based MMOs, social and mobile games, and we’ve set up our workflow so that we can iterate and add new content very quickly. In terms of scale, depth and volume of content, DUST 514 will easily be the biggest multiplayer FPS on the market – also by virtue of being an MMOFPS, not just an FPS.”

Dust 514 is an MMOFPS hybrid set in the EVE universe. The game is a PS3 exclusive that is set to interact with the studio’s long-running PC title EVE Online, allowing users to fight ground battles on planets in the EVE universe. It is said to include cross-platform chat between both titles.
