The browser will come on game card and will be available for 3800 yen (approximately £18). Rumours suggest that the browser will launch in the US at Christmas, but there has been little to point towards a European release, with Nintendo yet to announce any plans for the web browser outside of Japan.

The DS Opera browser will allow for two modes of browsing: fit-to-width and DS mode; that’s according to Opera’s Berit Hanson, who spoke to Cubed3 about the DS browser software.

In fit-to-width mode, Opera uses both screens for scrolling up or down a page with both screens completing the view. In DS mode, an overview of the Web page is displayed on the lower screen and a pink square can be moved around an area of the page. The area you have selected is shown on the upper screen,” said Hanson.

Users of the new browser can expect the same the same surfing speed and rendering capabilities of the desktop versions of Opera, and Hanson also discussed that the DS version has “the ability to hand write the URL into the address field.” This feature currently supports Japanese and English language text input, so perhaps the Japanese release of the browser will be import friendly.
