Iwata has revealed that the DS will be able to be used as a touch screen controller for the Wii, using the upcoming Pokémon Diamond and Peal games, together with the Wii’s Pokémon Battle as an example. With Diamond or Peal in the DS and Battle in the Wii, the two consoles will then link up, displaying the Battles on your TV and the game being controlled via the DS touch screen. The game will also feature versus play, both offline with another player and online against people from all over the world.

The Wii will also be able to act as a DS Station, allowing the DS to download game demos and other content. DS games will also be able to be expanded using the Wii, an example of which being the Pokémon game link-up. It’s not clear whether or not DS games will be playable on a TV, or if the feature will be limited to game data sharing.

Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are set for a Japanese release this fall, with Pokémon Battle on the Wii expected after the DS games, but before the end of the year. There’s no news on a European release just yet.
