DriveClub VR could still be in development despite the closure of the original game’s creator Evolution Studios.
A rating for the game appeared on the website of the North American ratings board, the ESRB, earlier today, where it is described as a “racing simulation game in which players drive a variety of cars around real world locations”. “Players can engage in traditional races, time trials, and drifting challenges,” it adds.
While DriveClub VR has never been officially detailed by Sony, it has been shown to select media behind closed doors, with Evolution believed to have been working on it prior to its closure last month. The first footage was revealed in a video posted by JeuxVideo last month, which you can see at around 6:45 in the video below.
With Evolution gone, however, it isn’t clear who may have picked up the development duties of a VR spin-off. Shortly after the developer’s closure, senior community manager Jamie Brayshaw explained that “DriveClub will live on under the care of the awesome team at PlayStation”, with Sony owning the rights to the IP.
The team at Evolution, meanwhile, has been snapped up by Codemasters, with work on a brand new racing IP having started earlier today. Evolution has yet to reveal its new studio name.
