Evolution Studios has taken Driveclub “back to the drawing board” to ensure “the game is great”, according to comments made by Sony Worldwide Studios America development head Scott Rohde.

Discussing the delayed PS4 racer with IGN, Rohde said that Sony’s “fundamental principle” was to “build great games”.

“And we really don’t want to release a game before it’s ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we’re on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we’d be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready.”

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost] and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game.”

Rohde later refused to confirm that Driveclub would still release in 2014, stating that “we’re not announcing any specifics on [a date] yet”.

Officially, Driveclub is still on track for a release in “early 2014”. The game was originally scheduled to release alongside PS4 last November.

However, it isn’t clear from Rohde’s comments when Evolution took the game “back to the drawing board”, and whether it’s a recent development or the real reason for the game’s earlier delay.
