PS4 racer DriveClub has been delayed until 2014, according to numerous online reports.

Rumblings of the launch title’s delay first appeared online earlier this evening when a website called The Same Coin claimed that it had received word “from an anonymous source that Sony’s upcoming PS4 launch title Driveclub is delayed until spring 2014.”

“Treat this as 100 per cent rumour for now,” stated the site, “hopefully it will turn out to be false.”

But in the hours that followed, multiple other sources backed up The Same Coin’s report, with NeoGAF user ‘famousmortimer’ – the person behind this year’s #PS4NoDRM campaign and with alleged links to Sony sources – claimed that he had also heard the rumour “from someone I trust. That’s all I can say. This person isn’t working on the game and could be wrong. I trust that it isn’t wrong.

“They [Sony] are likely scrambling to pick a new PS+ game to deliver some good news with the bad and announce it then,” he said.

Kotaku later reported that “a person familiar with goings-on at Sony” had confirmed with them that “the report is true” and that the game had indeed seen a delay. The site also stated that DriveClub had been pulled from a PS4 event taking place in North America today, with a Sony representative claiming that the game had been removed due to a “scheduling conflict”.

The same rep also told Kotaku that Sony “[doesn’t] comment on rumors and speculation” when asked about the delay.

DriveClub’s design director Paul Rustchynsky chose not to confirm or deny reports when quizzed about the delay on Twitter either, stating: “Unfortunately guys I don’t have any new information on DRIVECLUB to share. I’ve been out if the office for a week looking after my newborn!”

DriveClub had been expected to launch alongside PlayStation 4 on November 29, with a content-limited version also available for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

If true, the delay would mark the second major setback for PlayStation 4 this week following Ubisoft’s decision to push back key launch title Watch Dogs. It would also mean that PlayStation 4 launches with just two AAA first-party titles: Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack.

Sony has yet to respond to VideoGamer.com’s request for comment.
