Capcom has revealed the debut trailer for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. The new versions have been confirmed for an October 5 release in Japan, alongside the PC version (which wasn’t previously released in Japan).

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen makes its way to current gen consoles in North America and Europe later on this year. The release of this port coincides with the series’ 5th anniversary. Originally released in 2012, Dragon’s Dogma has sold 3.2 million copies worldwide, which isn’t too shabby.

Set in a huge open-world, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an action role-playing game with hack and slash gameplay. Think of it like a western-stylised take on Monster Hunter, and you have a good idea of where it’s all going. The player, when creating a character, chooses between a variety of archetypal RPG job types, such as fighter, sorcerer, archer, assassin and knight, and the gameplay is very different depending on which path you choose. With an innovative pawn system, you are able to hire an AI companion who will assist you in battles and provide hints and strategies to progress. Dragon’s Dogma was also praised for its day and night cycle, which vastly affected the game’s difficulty, and sent players running for cover as darkness fell.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen first launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, and a remastered PC version was released in January 2016. The PS4 and Xbox One versions currently have a rather vague ‘autumn’ release date for the UK.
