Square Enix has announced that there’ll be a sequel to its building action role-playing game Dragon Quest Builders, and it’s coming to the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The aptly titled Dragon Quest Builders 2 was revealed over the weekend during a (nine hour long) special event stream. If it strikes your fancy, it might be worth a watch.

The first game took elements of that familiar building and crafting Minecraft gameplay style and combined it with an RPG story straight out of the Dragon Quest series, and the sequel looks to build upon that formula. Dragon Quest Builders 2 will add new features like sloping platforms, the ability to indulge in some underwater exploration, and faster travel thanks to an endearingly cute hang glider.

This time around the game will also feature a proper four player co-op mode, where players will be able to build stuff and go on adventures together. This is an improvement on the previous game’s multiplayer, where only plots of land were shared between players.

The original Dragon Quest Builders was well received on its release last year, and performed quite well for a Dragon Quest title selling over 1.1 million copies worldwide, so that bodes well.

No release date has been announced for the title in the West, but going by the performance and reception to the first Dragon Quest Builders on PS4 and PS Vita on this side of the world, I’d remain cautiously optimistic. This time around there’ll be no PS Vita version, with Square Enix instead (sensibly) shifting its attention onto the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 will release in Japan in 2018 on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
