Double Fine has announced Costume Quest, an all-new downloadable game described as a Halloween RPG.

It’s the brainchild of Double Fine lead animator Tasha Harris, and is the first of a series of titles to be headed up by members of the Double Fine team.

The game begins when the hero (boy or girl) and little sister embark on a night of trick ‘r’ treating, only the little sister – dressed as a candy cane – gets gobbled up by a monster. It’s then up to the player to rescue her and get home before curfew.

It might look cute, but there’s some proper RPG-style combat involved, with players transforming into “awesome versions of themselves” based on the costume being worn.

THQ is publishing and the game’s said to be pretty much complete – presumably it’ll be out in time for Halloween.
