Doom from id Software was shown off publicly for the first time at Bethesda’s E3 2015 showcase and was given a spring 2016 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Harking back to the original games, the Doom reboot features fast player movement, extreme violence and an array of classic weapons such as the double barrelled shotgun – weapons accessed via an on-screen wheel which slows down time when triggered.

At one point in the demo the main character ripped off a dead NPC’s arm in order to use the hand to open a locked door. Numerous ultra-violent finishing moves were also shown off, as was the insanely gorey chainsaw, used to tear through a wave of enemies.

As well as clearly modern visuals, running on id Tech 6, Doom seems to be moving into the modern era in terms of player agility too. At numerous points the player double jumped or clambered onto platforms.

After an impressive, if somewhat shooting-gallery style single-player demo, a short teaser of Doom Multiplayer showcased the promised fast-paced arena-style combat set on-board a USC facility on mars.

Doom Snapmap, a system designed to let players of all skill and experience, will also be included with Doom, allowing players to create custom game types, maps and modes, and then share with others around the world.
