Speaking at this year’s QuakeCon conference, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead disappointed the gathered mass of hardcore fans with news that Doom 4 would not be shown this week. Instead, Hollenshead promised more details on the highly anticipated title at next year’s event.
“When we show it to you, you’re gonna love it,” he promised.
Speaking after Hollenshead, in a lengthy keynote, id technical director John Carmack explained that development of Doom 4 is a slight departure for the studio, in that a new game engine has not been built alongside the game – much of that work was taken care of during the development of Rage and the id Tech 5 engine.
