As spotted by The Gamer, Pierre Shorette and Nick Herman, co-founders of Dispatch developer, AdHoc Studio, have said “we’re going to have to a least think about Season 2 now” in an interview on Skill Up’s YouTube channel with Jake Baldino of Gameranx. This is in addition to a project already announced with partner Critical Role, which is a game set in the world of Exandria.
There’s no commitment for Season 2 happening, but Pierre Shorette said Dispatch Season 2 is something AdHoc is at least going to have consider, which was a “question mark three weeks ago,” but is now a “very cool problem to have”.
Even though it was announced at the Game Awards 2024, Dispatch feels as though it has come out of nowhere. Its player count has doubled as extremely positive word of mouth spreads, and it incredibly sold over 1 million copies in just 10 days. Not to mention it also has a near-perfect 9.5 rating on the PSN store, making it one of the best rated PS5 games, if not the best.
Dispatch Developer is Making an Exandria Game
While we would absolutely love Dispatch Season 2, it’s already been announced that AdHoc is planning a video game set in the world of Critical Role’s Exandria.
Critical Role’s CEO and veteran voice actor, Travis Willingham, received an audition for Dispatch and was incredibly impressed with AdHoc Studios’ work. In an exclusive shared by Variety earlier this year, Willingham said that he “absolutely flipped out [because] The animation was so amazing”. This led to Willingham calling AdHoc Studio’s co-founder and COO Nick Herman to ask about creating a game with a similar animation style for Critical Role.
According to Willingham, Critical Role and AdHoc Studio are co-developing “something unique in the world of Exandria”, and it is very early in development. The belief is that it will follow the narrative template of Dispatch where players make choices.
Willingham said, “We’re tossing around ideas, what are we thinking about in terms of scope and budget, and some of the things we must have”. The Critical Role CEO elaborated, “I think it would have to be something brand-new in terms of storyline,” suggesting that the video game might be set at some point in between Critical Role’s main campaigns. Fan-favorite characters Willingham suggested could make an appearance include Vox Machina, Mighty Nein, and Bells Hells.
Whatever and whenever AdHoc Studio’s next game sees the light of day, we’ll definitely be there day one as Dispatch is incredible. Episodes 7 and 8 are scheduled to release on November 12th, and we cannot wait to see AdHoc hopefully stick the superhero landing.
