Developer AdHoc has announced that Dispatch has officially sold over 1 million copies in just 10 days, and the game is so good that it has emerged as a very late Game of the Year contender, adding to what has been a stellar year, particularly for indies.

On X, AdHoc revealed that over 1 million copies have been sold in 10 days since episode 1 and 2 came out on October 22nd. This is a fantastic achievement as AdHoc is an independent studio with Dispatch their first game, it is only available on PS5 and Steam, and it’s not a full product yet as episodes 7 and 8 aren’t scheduled to come out until November 12th. While we highly recommend buying it right now, it’s understandable if more people are waiting until all episodes are released.

For PlayStation, it has a near-perfect rating of 4.95, making Dispatch one of the best rated games on the PSN store, if not the best. On Steam it has a “very positive” aggregate with “93% of the 13,000 user reviews positive,” and on Metacritic it currently has a 9.3 user rating based off 162 reviews.

It’s clear from the reception that players absolutely love the game and will be hoping for a second season. AdHoc is comprised of former Telltale talent that worked on Tales of the Borderlands and the Wolf Among Us, and, provided the final two episodes stick the superhero landing, Dispatch will be cemented as one of the best games of 2025.

Dispatch is Late Game of the Year Contender

Although released too late to be one of the many nominees for the Golden Joystick Awards, Dispatch is a very late contender for Game of the Year at Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards. Unfortunately, we don’t know the official cutoff date for the Game Awards this year, but in 2022 it was November 18th, 2023 was November 17th, and 2024 was November 22nd. Dispatch should just about sneak through with episodes 7 and 8 releasing on November 12th.

Unlike the Golden Joystick Awards which has 12 nominees for its Ultimate Game of the Year, the Game Awards only allows six nominees for the coveted GOTY prize. While Dispatch is one of the best releases this year, getting nominated for Game of the Year will be very difficult as there’s Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Hades 2, Hollow Knight Silksong, Split Fiction, Ghost of Yotei, Megabonk, and Death Stranding 2 to compete with, just to name a few.

Nominations for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game seem plausible, but again the competition is fierce as it’s been a stellar year for indies. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is an indie experience, and then again there’s still Hades 2, Hollow Knight Silksong, and Megabonk, plus many more such as Blueprince and BallxPit.

The Game Awards is scheduled for December 11th, and nominees should be revealed by roughly mid-November. For game of the year, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is the favorite. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director has said Expedition 33 is his GOTY pick, and Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has cast his vote for Sandfall Interactive, too. Regardless of who gets what trophies though, ultimately gamers have won as 2025 has been incredible.
