AdHoc Studio co-founder and Dispatch writer, Pierre Shorette, recently told Inverse that the “developer definitely cut some sex scenes”. In acknowledging that they shouldn’t have been cut in retrospect, Shorette teased, “Maybe folks will get to see those one day”.

As for why they were cut, Shorette and others at AdHoc Studio didn’t anticipate how much fans would love the game’s romance. Shorette explained that it’s “probably why we didn’t plan for more romance options, because we didn’t know it was going to be such a meaningful part of the experience for folks”.

While picking between Blonde Blazer and Invisigal is a part of the game along with some steamy scenes, Shorette insists, “I don’t think we made a ‘gooner game,’ and people know that now if they’ve played up to Episode 6”.

In acknowledging cut sex scenes maybe shouldn’t have been removed in retrospect, it was pointed out that “There isn’t anyone on the development team that wouldn’t have a laundry list of stuff they wish they could polish more or gotten into the game”. This is because “On the writing side, our team has a bunch of darlings that had to be killed along the way”. In addition, AdHoc is “still an indie studio,” and “it costs a lot per second to make this video game, and sometimes it costs things that often with these games is branching too”.

Dispatch Romance Options

There are only two romance options in Dispatch: Blonde Blazer and Invisigal. It is not possible to romance others, including Malevola despite AdHoc cruelly teasing on X, “Maybe you’re just making all the wrong choices”.

It’s interesting to hear that maybe more romance options would have been planned if AdHoc anticipated players enjoying choosing between Blonde Blazer and Invisigal so much. Maybe more romance options something that can happen if the developer chooses to commit to a second season.

There’s no guarantee Season 2 will happen, but Aaron Paul has said that the door to Season 2 is “definitely slightly ajar”. In addition, Pierre Shorette said in an interview on Skill Up’s YouTube channel that AdHoc is “going to have to a least think about Season 2 now” following the game’s huge success.

Regarding the success of Dispatch, it has incredibly sold over 1 million copies in 10 days, putting AdHoc “on track” to beat their three years sale target in just three months. The game also has a near-perfect 9.5 rating on the PSN store, making it one of the best rated PS5 games, if not the best.

We would love a Season 2, but there are other plans including a game set in the world of Critical Role’s Exandria. Shorette has also said AdHoc would consider working with “white whale IPs,” pointing to the success of The Wolf Among Us while at Telltale.
