The team behind an unannounced DiRT game at Codemasters “has been downsized” as part of a larger company restructure, according to a report on Eurogamer, with under 20 staff said to be working on the title.

The site’s report states that around 50 jobs at the company are currently being reviewed, with “designers and artists on the GRID and DiRT team” alleged to be at risk of redundancy alongside employees within the company’s brand and IT departments. Codemasters’ Birmingham-based F1 team is said to be unaffected.

Around 500 people are currently employed by the company, the site reports.

“As Codemasters continues its programme of strategic realignment in line with market changes, the company has reviewed its current structures to focus on areas of increased importance and decrease resources in areas where work requirements have been reduced,” a Codemasters representative told Eurogamer.

“As a result of this review, a small number of roles have been proposed as being at risk of redundancy. Those in potentially affected roles are now involved in a consultation period to discuss the proposal. The proposal does not affect the on-going production of titles in development and no projects have been cancelled as a result of the proposal.”

While it isn’t clear whether the DiRT title in question is the widely-rumoured DiRT 4 or another game in the series, Eurogamer reports that Codemasters had planned to launch it via an “Early Access-style release in the middle of February”.

That, however, is said to be looking increasingly unlikely due to the company having failed to secure the appropriate car licenses.

A new F1 title for PS4, Xbox One and PC is scheduled to release later this year.
