Blizzard has announced the Diablo III launch window will be moved to early 2012. The firm stated it will use this additional time to extend the Diablo III closed beta test, which began last Tuesday, and may be inviting more testers than was initially planned.

Explaining the later release, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime stated: “With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn’t put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready.

“The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we’re taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.”

In order to register for the beta, users must have an active Battle.net account and opt to participate in the beta through Battle.net’s account management settings.

Recently, gameplay footage for Diablo 3 was allegedly released by an ex-employee, including screenshots and video clips of the game.
