Devil May Cry is to become a movie franchise after Screen Gems bought the rights to the Capcom series, Variety reports.

The American subsidiary company of Sony Pictures Entertainment has already had success with Capcom’s Resident Evil, grossing more than $580 million worldwide.

Kyle War is to write the script, which is said to revolve around central character Dante, who aims to avenge his mother’s murder by killing demons. Ward penned the script for the Kane & Lynch movie.

The next game in the Devil May Cry series is currently in development at Enslaved creators Ninja Theory, and is a reboot of the franchise.
