Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal has assured gamers that the sci-fi franchise hasn't gone the way of the Dodo, but all the same is unlikely to make a comeback anytime soon.

Speaking during an interview with PCGamesN, studio boss David Anfossi was quizzed about the status of Deus Ex, to which he succinctly responded: 'Deus Ex is not dead, I confirm that.'

However, with Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the Avengers project eating up much of the developer's time, it looks like Deux Ex will be on the backburner for a while now.

'So we have Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we have this co-development with Crystal [Dynamics] on The Avengers, and we have a third game in development, so it's enough at the moment for us,' added Anfossi.

His comments align with previous remarks made by Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda, who said last November that the company was 'exploring what we want to do with the next instalment of it.'

Deus Ex last showed its face with 2016's Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. It wasn't a bad game by any stretch, but came up short in comparison to the excellent Human Revolution.

Sales weren't all that favourable however, with Human Revolution posting a much stronger debut, after which the series was seemingly put on ice.
