Official websites for Eidos Interactive and its upcoming title Deus Ex were hacked Wednesday, according to news blog KrebsonSecurity.

The hack, said to be headed by a splinter group of the Internet hacktivist collective Anonymous, resulted in the stolen personal data of at least 80,000 registered users as well as 9000 CVs.

Internet-goers were unable to reach the Deus Ex website and forum, as well as Eidos.com early this morning after the site was attacked and defaced with the banner “Owned by Chippy1337”.

Logs obtained of a chatroom conversation between the hackers show the individuals discussing whether to leak the “src”, potentially referring to the source code of Deus Ex or other Eidos titles. The full IRC conversation can be accessed here.

This attack comes just days after Sony announced an off-shoot of Anonymous could be responsible for the recent PSN hack which compromised the information of over 100 million customers.

Neither Eidos nor Square Enix have commented on the situation as of yet. Nor is it clear how this will effect those whose personal information has been stolen.

Interestingly the collective have already “doxed” the individual believed the be at the centre of the original PSN hack in retaliation – posting personal documents including his full name, home address, and phone number.
