Destiny: Rising had fans of the franchise hyped for another experience in the much loved universe and since its launch, it appears to have delivered in various avenues.
However, where the disconnect between Destiny 2 and Destiny: Rising is very apparent is the ‘gacha’ mechanic of the latter, which those new to games of this ilk will find very foreign.
Usually, gacha mechanics aren’t exactly the most wallet friendly but surprisingly, those who have had hands on since launch aren’t really feeling the pinch.
Destiny: Rising has fairer gacha mechanics
Gacha games are typically very unforgiving, making those who dare to spend money want to carry on dumping cash into them until the desired outcome is achieved. Think of it in terms of slots or even sports betting — you want to keep going and going until you get that one big hit and all becomes good in the world.
Destiny: Rising, however, even though it is a gacha game at heart, is being regarded by players as “generous” in comparison to its competitors.
Resources appear to be relatively easy to acquire, with even the more desired somewhat grindable. Banner pity is a big win also, with the game giving you the character you’re chasing after 60 wishes with no 50/50 like others.
Take the first raid for the game, too. NetEase had the opportunity to really look to dig deeper into players’ pockets by not adding the Fair Play modifier, but instead, all characters were locked to basic abilities. This meant that Estela, for example, a highly favorable character for late game content for her life steal ability, wasn’t a necessity, saving those who wanted to take part in the raid from pumping dollars into pulling her.
With all this being said though, the gacha mechanics are still in the game and there are some hard restrictions if you choose to only go down the free to play route.
So, if you go in thinking you won’t be sucked into spending a few bucks, you may be sorely mistaken but hey, at least it appears like you won’t be breaking the bank to play most of the game.
