Deck13 has released two new screenshots of its upcoming Dark Souls-like action-RPG The Surge.

The shots come ahead of the game’s appearance at next month’s E3, and show off lead character Warren fighting against one of the game’s mechs and exo-suit-equipped enemies.

“The screenshots revealed today show off some of the security forces you’ll be facing in your adventure,” said publisher Focus Home Interactive. “They use the same exo-suit technology as you but have tools built for combat, making them incredibly deadly foes. In The Surge, you will not just be facing opponents your own size; towering mechanical enemies armed to the teeth are ready to face against you.”

The Surge’s combat is described by the developer as “fast-paced, tactical, and brutal”, and has previously been compared to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls. One major difference, however, is the game’s ‘limb targeting system’, which lets players cut off specific limbs to farm materials and create upgrades for their exo-suit.

Deck13’s last major console game, Lords of the Fallen, which was again compared to Dark Souls, released on PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2014.

The Surge, meanwhile, is due to hit PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017. Expect to hear much more at E3 next month.
