Deadpool continues to do great business at the box office in both the US and the rest of the world, with its global total set to smash through $500 million today.
After its second week the comic-book movie had earned $235.4 million in the US – earning $55 on its second weekend – helping the movie to a global total of $491.7 million. Variety estimates $500 million will be reached once Monday’s figures are released.
“It’s one of those times where a movie becomes a touchstone in culture,” said Chris Aronson, Fox’s domestic distribution chief. “It just becomes part of the zeitgeist and one of those movies you just have to see. That’s due to its uniqueness. People have never seen anything like this before.”
Fox produced Deadpool for the bargain price of $58 million, though the marketing budget will have added a considerable sum.
