The Dead Space franchise isn’t dead, but probably isn’t coming back anytime soon, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau has told CVG.

“No it’s not out of rotation,” Gibeau said. “I mean, I’m not announcing anything right now, but I will say we had a great trilogy of games and we still have faith in that franchise.

“Dead Space is something that we’re very proud of,” he added. “We are not making any public announcements on what we’re doing with the next Dead space, but we definitely have a great set of IPs to pull out of the vault.”

Gibeau also suggested that one of the reasons we’re not already hearing about a new Dead Space is a lack of development resources.

“The worst thing you can do as a company is try too many things at once,” he said.

VideoGamer.com reported back in March that Dead Space 4 had been canned after lower than anticipated sales of Dead Space 3. Dead Space developer Visceral is currently thought to be working on an unannounced Star Wars title.

Gibeau says that Dead Space isn’t out of rotation, but also suggests the franchise is currently in the vault. The vault sounds like a place where IPs are left to stew until a reboot is green lit – kind of like what happened with Mirror’s Edge.
