EA and Starz Media have announced an animated movie prequel to the sci-fi horror game Dead Space. The animated feature begins where the original comic book series ends and leads up to the beginning of the video game.

The story will focus on the events aboard a futuristic mining spaceship, the USG Ishimura, after it pulls a mysterious artefact from a remote dig site. Things quickly take a turn for the worse when the artefact triggers an invasion of a long-dormant alien presence.

The feature is scheduled to be released via broadcast TV and later on DVD, with the premiere to coincide with the launch of the game this Halloween. Starz Media also has two further animated projects in development, based on two other EA franchises.
