MTV Multiplayer Blog reports that Dead Rising 2, the upcoming zombie-survival action sequel from Capcom and Blue Castle Games, could feature as many as 6,000 characters on screen.
At a GDC presentation last week, Dead Rising 2 character art lead, Izmeth Siddeek, revealed that the development team at Blue Castle Games is utilising a technology called Mental Mill to create an unprecedented video game zombie horde.
“Dead Rising 2 deals with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game,” said Siddeek. “Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement.”
Mental Mill makes it possible to display a large number of characters on screen without a loss in graphical quality. Mental Mill product manager, Laura Scholl, added that as many as 6,000 characters could appear on screen.
