A free-to-play version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate will release on the UK PlayStation Store this September, Team Ninja has confirmed.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters features four characters – Kasumi, Ayane, Ryu Hayabuse, and Hayate – and every mode except Story mode.

“Some gameplay elements” will also be available for purchase, including additional characters and the game’s story. Characters will be sold individually but prices have yet to be announced.

Players using the free-to-play version will also be able to fight those with the retail version, and costumes, titles and story progress unlocked in last year’s Dead or Alive 5 will be carried over.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters is currently only confirmed for release on PlayStation 3, but an Xbox 360 version is “possible”, Team Ninja says.

For more information on what’s included in Core Fighters head over to the game’s official website, or look out for it on PlayStation Store on September 6.
