Deep Silver has lifted the lid on Dead Island Riptide’s fifth character, John Morgan, a US Navy cook who finds himself washed up on the island of Palanai.

Morgan is a specialist in hand-to-hand combat, who relies on his skills to lay waste to the zombie hoards terrorising the town of Henderson, one of the new locations in Riptide.

Henderson is described as a luxurious “Mediterranean-looking port town” at the centre of Palanai, and home to “ultra-wealthy yacht owners” and tourism.

Morgan joins the original game’s cast, Sam B., Purna, Logan and Xian Mei.

The reveal of a fifth playable character doesn’t necessarily mean that the game’s co-op support has been increased to five players, though. As far as we’re aware, Dead Island Riptide will still only include support for four co-op players.

In addition to revealing details on Morgan and Henderson, Deep Silver released five new screenshots of Riptide. None of them feature Morgan, however. Click through to our screenshot gallery to take a look.

Dead Island Riptide continues the story where last year’s open world horror left off, following the survivors as they find themselves amidst a furious storm after boarding a military ship.

As well as introducing new characters and locations, Riptide also features a new dynamic weather system and lets players navigate the game world in boats.

Dead Island Riptide launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on April 26, 2013.
