New codes are currently available to redeem in Dead By Daylight, and eligible players are also able to claim 2 million Bloodpoints. There’s also the imminent impending release of The Walking Dead Chapter starring Rick Grimes and Michonne. While The Walking Dead Chapter is massively exciting, an upcoming change has some Dead By Daylight players worried about whether fans actually own the characters and DLC they buy.

Dead By Daylight devs clarify upcoming change

As shared on Reddit, in Dead By Daylight update 9.10.0, characters and DLC you have purchased will have their label changed as “unlocked” from “owned”. Understandably, this has caused a lot of heated discussion online about whether fans own the content they are buying.

In response to concerns, the Deadbydaylight_dev Reddit account commented, “As always, we have to navigate complicated regional laws and regulations. You’re just seeing a language change to comply with them, but no actual change to your game”.

Alongside the above comment, developer and community manager, Mandy, on the BeHaviour Interactive forums, added, “nothing is changing apart from the wording, the meaning behind it is the same as it’s always been… we just have to comply with all global laws so sometimes wording changes might happen”.

Mandy further clarified, “You can be assured if you’ve unlocked a character it is not going to be taken away from you”. In addition, “It also doesn’t change how you get DLC’s – everything will carry on as before, download from your platform, get the characters from the in-game store for either AC’s or IS’s, whichever is applicable to that character”.

This is great news for anyone concerned about the change. Mandy’s clarification means that, if you have purchased a character or piece of DLC, you will continue to own it, and it will not be taken away in instances such as BeHaviour not renewing an IP’s license such as with the recent removal of Hellraiser. There are dubious rumors about Tomb Raider departing DBD in the near future, and, if this were to happen, you would still own the character so long as you purchased them before the removal date.
