While there’s still one more day remaining to redeem the July 2025 codes for Dead By Daylight, there’s plenty else to look forward to in August as part of the DBD roadmap. One of the most exciting events scheduled for next month is the return of 2v8 mode. While there are no new killers for this iteration of 2v8, BeHaviour have added three new maps while also making a bunch of worthwhile changes and improvements. However, in response to some of the community online, BeHaviour has shared a divisive feature they are “adamant” about never adding to 2v8 or any other Dead By Daylight mode.
Dead By Daylight devs are “adamant” about never adding voice chat
On the BeHaviour Interactive forums, a user named Royval created a post titled, “Add Voice Chat to regular mode or 2v8 please as a limited time mode”. Voice chat is a part of many multiplayer games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty, and it’s even a part of other multiplayer horror games such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre where it is team-based.
In response to the request, DBD community manager, Mandy, said, “There’s no plans to do this, we’re quite vocal about how we will not add Voice Chat to DbD not even in modes”. Another user wondered if proximity chat would be possible, to which Mandy stressed, “no voice chat in any way, it’s something we’ve been adamant about from the very beginning”.
Depending on which side of the fence you sit, this is either good or bad news. While a lot of players would like voice chat to be added, many others don’t because of potential issues around toxicity. Some have suggested an optional toggle for players who wouldn’t want voice chat, but it appears that’s never going to be an avenue BeHaviour explore.
Voice chat has been an issue in other multiplayer games because of toxicity and other potentially dangerous scenarios, and voice communication is actively monitored in games such as Call of Duty as well as now Marvel Rivals.
While there are ways for companies to monitor voice chat and punish players who break the rules, the potential ramifications are likely not worth the hassle for BeHaviour Interactive, and there’s also likely no point in them adding the conundrum seeing as it’s not been an issue for nearly ten-years after the game’s original release back in 2016.
If you’re disappointed about BeHaviour never adding voice chat, some better news is that next year they are planning to add a highly requested feature seen in other live-service experiences such as Fortnite.
