The standalone version of DayZ is available to download now on Steam Early Access for £19.99.
However, those hoping to jump into something bug-free should be warned: developer Bohemia Interactive doesn’t recommend that players buy the game “unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”
In a message posted on Steam the developer said that the Early Access release offers “your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs.
“We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”
A separate notice also advises players not to purchase “unless you want to actively support development of the game and are prepared to handle with serious issues and possible interruptions of game functioning.”
Amazingly, Bohemia suggests that the game won’t hit Beta until at least “one year” from now.
“We estimate that reaching Beta version with all key features present will take more than one year from current stage,” reads the game’s description. “All features and plans listed here are subject to change, we may add or remove features as seen fit during development process.”
DayZ originally launched as a mod for military simulator Arma 2, with a standalone version first announced in August 2012. Numerous delays, however, saw the game delayed by over 12 months.
DayZ is an open-world online survival horror game that sees players attempting to survive a zombie apocalypse, and fending off threats from other players.
