DayZ has sold over 3 million units since launching on Steam Early Access, Bohemia Interactive has announced.

“We would like to say thank you to every single one of the three million players, that have joined us on the journey of making DayZ,” commented project lead David Durcak. “You all have helped make DayZ the best open world, zombie survival game. This is an amazing achievement, and we are really looking forward to start sharing with you all of our game design improvements, anti-hack solutions and other optimizations we have been working on for a majority of the last year.”

DayZ launched in Early Access in December 2013, with 24 updates having rolled out since the game’s initial launch.

A number of updates are also planned for release this year, including the introduction of a new UI, diseases, dynamic events, a new physics system and animal companions.

A beta release is expected later in the year, with a console version also in development. Over 80 people are now said to be working on the project.

DayZ’s original creator Dean Hall left Bohemia last year to start his own studio RocketWerkz.
