Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s hype train is very much in motion. Following the release of the brilliant Silent Hill 2 remake, confidence in Konami is growing by the day.

While the company isn’t yet ready to remake Metal Gear Solid 1, fans are hopeful for the future of Konami games for the first time in a decade.

Getting the band back together

While Delta is clearly a remake rather than a reimagining of the stunning Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, even down to using the game’s original audio, Snake actor David Hayter revealed he’s been back in the studio recording new voice lines.

Hayter told fans that he was back in a role not played since 2010’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. “I was in the booth today. Playing a role I’ve not played, since…,” he wrote, before posting a GIF of Naked Snake, the protagonist in Snake Eater.

“I AM Major Zero and always will be. Over and out.”

Jim Piddick

But Hayter isn’t the only actor who’s been recording new lines. Earlier in the year, Major Zero actor Jim Piddick also revealed he’s been back in the studio. “Yup. We’re on board. Some new recording with original. I AM Major Zero and always will be. Over and out,” he wrote in a Twitter post.

We’ve had no confirmation that other actors have returned, but the above signs are hopeful that fan favourites such as Ocelot and The Boss could get more lines.

So, what could this mean for Delta?

While its hard to say exactly what this means, we can make some pretty educated guesses. For one, new lines and recordings suggest that additional cutscenes could be added to the game. This could take the form of a hidden epilogue, some new easter eggs or something else. A more realistic take would be that the new lines will be used for tutorial purposes, with Zero explaining the new controls to the player.

It also supports the notion, especially from the gameplay demos that we’ve seen that Snake will have more dialogue options when interrogating soldiers. Whatever the case, it’s lovely to see these actors returning to their beloved roles.

There’s still no concrete release date for Delta, but the game is still scheduled to launch sometime in 2024.
