Wrestler-and-Marvel actor Dave Bautista would love to play Marcus Fenix in the anticipated Gears of War movie, but after his continual efforts it doesn’t look hopeful.

A tweet from a fan requested Hollywood give the green light for the actor to star in this movie about the burly locust murderers; Bautista’s reply makes it sound like we can put this fantasy casting to bed, though. The former WWE champion said he’s ‘tried everything to make this happen’ to no avail. It’s frustrating for Bautista too, who states Hollywood – as a conglomerate, nebulous, vast and answerable entity – ‘could give AF’.

It’s not all bad, though. Rod Fergusson, studio head of The Coalition, is well up for Dave to play Marcus Fenix but did say that the decision is not up to him.

The Gears of War movie has been in the works since 2007 and details remain very scant. In 2016, Universal Pictures confirmed its involvement in the project, and earlier this summer it was revealed that an actual script is being drafted by an as yet unknown writer. Fergusson was also able to state that some wild card casting choices may be in the running, perhaps actors you wouldn’t automatically associate with a story of a Locust Horde apocalypse.

Dream castings seem to be in the air this week, like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in a Borderlands role
