THQ have announced that their Vigil Games studio is working on its second release, titled Darksiders: Wrath of War. Due for a 2008 release on PS3 and Xbox 360, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world and will concentrate on action-adventure exploration in an open world.

The game’s combat will be based on the use of modern and mythical weapons, and judging by the trailer, Darksiders’ visual style looks something like a cross between Gears of War and more traditional works of monster-based fantasy artwork. Despite these comparisons with the Epic Games hit, it doesn’t look like gunplay will have a role in Darksiders.

Studio co-founder Joe Madureira is a famed comic book artist, who has previously worked on the incredibly popular Ultimates titles, and contributed to both X-men and Battle Chasers. With such a heritage, comic fans’ expectations of Darksiders will already be high.
