A Namco Bandai representative has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that the upcoming PC release of Dark Souls runs at “the exact same specs [as the] PS3 [version]”.

It was reported earlier today (via DSOGaming) that the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition would be locked to 30fps and fixed to a 1024×720 resolution.

Namco’s comments suggest that may very well be the case.

The revelation will likely anger fans hoping for a decent port of last year’s award-winning RPG.

According to a Digital Foundry report, the PlayStation 3 version “runs at a native 1024×720, with v-sync engaged”. The PS3 version also applies a “post-processing filter” that affects the clarity of text. The report also cites frame rate issues at specific moments.

The PC edition also uses Games For Windows – LIVE for online play and DRM.

DSOGaming’s report suggests that the game can be upscaled to 1080p, but that it will still be rendered at 1024×720.

Dark Souls originally launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2011 but, following a community petition, Namco Bandai announced that it would be releasing the game on PC this year as a special ‘Prepare To Die Edition’.

The Prepare To Die Edition contains the full game plus additional content.

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition launches on PC next Friday, August 24. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are also due to release later this year.
