There might not be a game more deserving of a multiplayer presence than CD Projekt Red’s sprawling futuristic open-world RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. Although the developer’s plans to add it to the game had been shot down following its less-than-ideal launch, one diligent modder is working hard to remedy that. And soon, chooms worldwide could be enjoying high-stakes races and shootouts in the slums of Night City once it launches.

CyberMP, the developer for Cyberpunk 2077‘s upcoming multiplayer mod, recently gave a few players the chance to test the online mode, including YouTuber JuiceHead. In addition to giving us a quick overview of a Night City populated purely by other player characters, the latter’s recently released video also gave a preview of what high-stakes multiplayer races would look like (spoiler alert: a ton of crashing is involved), and, of course, some snippets of 15-player deathmatches.

Although the multiplayer mod already looks highly polished (apart from a few graphical bugs), the developer has yet to reveal its release date. This, unfortunately, means you’ll have to remain patient for now before you can jump into a Cyberpunk 2077 roleplay server yourself. However, based on the quality showcased in the previously mentioned video, it may only need a few tweaks and improvements before CyberMP fully releases it.

Now, it is worth noting that this Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod is being designed similarly to GTA 5 Online, meaning you won’t get to play through any of the base game’s quests or storyline with other players. Instead, you’ll have the chance to create your own server-specific experience, whether it’s an exclusive roleplaying, racing, or deathmatch server. However, a story mode co-op mod isn’t completely out of the picture since other modders could eventually create one down the line.
