Crytek USA is “looking to buy” the Darksiders IP from THQ, according to tweets made by the company’s CEO.
“Going to bid on Darksiders IP,” read a tweet from Crytek USA boss David Adams. “Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.”
He later added that he was “looking to buy @Darksiders IP back from #THQ. The IP belongs in the hands of its creators.”
Crytek USA was established by the firm in January 2013, following the closure of Darksiders creator Vigil Games. The studio is believed to house multiple ex-Vigil staff, of whom have previously worked on the Darksiders series.
Darksiders was one of the few major IPs left without a new owner following THQ’s assets auction earlier this year. The publisher was stripped apart after falling into bankruptcy.
Multiple IPs were snapped up by other publishers, with Saints Row and Metro: Last Light being picked up by Deep Silver, and Company of Heroes going to SEGA.
The remaining IPs, which include Darksiders, Red Faction and Destroy All Humans, are expected to be sold by mid-May.
However, Adams’ comments conflict with those made by Crytek boss Cevat Yerli, who said last month that the series “doesn’t fit with [the company’s] strategy” and that he “didn’t want to continue with Darksiders III”.
