Speaking to Nex-Gen.biz, Yerli explained how the development team at Crytek has been hard at work ensuring Crysis can be played by a large audience of PC gamers and not just those with uber rigs.
“We developed almost all effects to be very scalable for different hardware specs,” he says. “Fortunately this is much easier now that we can rely on the existence of hardware shaders. We believe clearly that Crysis will be enjoyed by a large audience that dates back to gamers with two- to three-year-old gaming rigs.“
Just because the game will run on older machines doesn’t mean the game will look any less spectacular when played on a top of the line system. Yerli notes that gamers might find it hard to switch back to the game running on DX9 once they have seen the game in DX10.
Yerli is also a strong supporter of Windows Vista and Games for Windows, which he hopes with initiate the much discussed PC gaming resurgence, something he feels is “about time“.
Crysis will be released under the Games for Windows brand. Exactly when that will be is still to be decided.
