Posting on the game’s official website in an update titled “State of the Game”, Star Trek Online developer Cryptic has revealed the participation in the game’s Open Beta has “crushed” its internal predictions.
“The first week of Open Beta has been amazing!” said the developer.
“We have seen more sign-ups and players than we ever imagined we could. So very many people have shown interest in Star Trek Online and logged in to play that we’ve actually had to scramble to support everyone. Our core engineers are this very second working like crazed technology wielding madmen to improve performance and stability across the board. We’re also adding a lot more hardware to accommodate our players.”
“Reality has exceeded even our wildest expectations,” added the developer.
Given the huge demand for the Open Beta, the developer admits it’s had some trouble ensuring the game’s performance doesn’t falter, but has plans in place to improve the situation.
“Given the hardware we’re adding and a couple more fixes we have in the pipe, shard performance and stability should continue to improve over the coming week.”
Players will also be pleased to hear that Cryptic plans to remove the current level cap at some point this week, opening up the entire game for testers. This means you’ll be able to visit DS9, Memory Alpha and advance your characters past Lt. Commander.
The game’s set to launch on February 5.
