The next Need for Speed game will be revealed ‘very soon’.

That’s according to a tweet by the Guildford-based Burnout developer, who said: “Today we saw the first magazine articles featuring our new game. And you will too. Soon.”

How soon? Someone asked that very question.

“We’d say VERY soon for the UK and the world,” Criterion replied.

Little is known about Criterion’s Need for Speed, save that it exists and will be “revolutionary”, according to EA CEO John Riccitiello.

Criterion’s Need for Speed team is headed up by creative director Alex Ward.

“Alex is one of the people in the industry I would analogize to the great filmmakers, etc.,” Riccitiello told Kotaku last year.

“He is a true creative visionary. We had a great fight about what the next Need For Speed would be like. Of course, he gets to win because it’s his call. It’s not that I’m without an opinion on it.”

In May publisher EA confirmed plans to unveil “a new Need for Speed title, Dead Space 2, and the return of one of the most storied franchises in first-person shooter history, Medal of Honor” at E3 next week.

The popular Need for Speed franchise was recently split into three parts: Need for Speed: World, a free to play PC MMO racing game due out later this year, the Criterion-developed Need for Speed, and a new, unannounced Need for Speed title due out in the fourth quarter of 2010.
