Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK, developers of the anticipated RPG Cris Tales, have revealed a new look at a coastal town in the world of Crystallis and showcased new combat abilities.

Cris Tales looks enchanting. It’s like Knights and Bikes and Persona were melted and mixed together to create this kaleidoscopic fantasy title. But, of course, Cris Tales stands on its own two feet with interesting inspiration and themes. The world of Crystallis draws from the experiences of the developers, and so the coastal town of Saint Clarity mimics Cartagena, Barranquilla and other Colombian cities close to the ocean. Beautiful, luxurious, and daring, Saint Clarity is not a utopian dream for all, and the time-turning mechanic of Cris Tales will show players what happened and will happen to those in poverty.

Exploring the city won’t be a walk in the park, though. On occasion, Saint Clarity will be hit by Arroyos: “rain-fueled flash floods that can carpet neighborhoods and streets—you’ll have to find high ground to avoid getting carried away!” This is only one of the mysterious and unique facets of the world of Crystallis, and the developers assure that the environments will keep players on their toes.

In addition, new combat abilities have been shown off. The heroine Crisbell will be joined by Matias and Wilhelm, and the turn-based system lets players stack attacks and sync with others’ skills. Wilhelm possesses the strange Yukadragoras which can be planted onto the battlefield to give off an AoE poison. This toxin will intensify in the future, so Crisbell could warp time and cause a devastating combo attack. New abilities will appear as the party levels up and progresses, and Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK say that this news update “barely scratched the surface” of scuffles in Cris Tales

Cris Tales is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC in 2020.
